Important update regarding Indian Standard applicable to all existing Licence holders/ New applicants/ manufacturers/ importers/ product sellers for Beta Picoline.
The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers
(Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals) has issued an important update
regarding the Beta Picoline (Quality Control) Order, 2020. This
amendment was officially published on 11th March 2025, and it extends
the implementation date of the order.
The Beta Picoline (Quality Control) Order, 2020 was introduced to ensure that Beta Picoline—a key chemical used in various industries—meets strict quality standards. This is done to protect consumers and promote the use of high-quality products.
What Has Changed?
Originally, the Beta Picoline (Quality Control) Order, 2020 was scheduled to take effect 181 days after its publication in the Official Gazette. However, with the new amendment issued on 11th March 2025, the implementation date has been extended to 13th March 2026.
The government has extended the
timeline to allow businesses and industries enough time to comply with the new
quality standards. This ensures a smooth transition, preventing any disruptions
in the supply chain while maintaining the objective of enforcing quality
control.
Mandatory Standard Mark
Under this order, Beta Picoline must conform to the Indian Standard IS 16112:2013. This means that manufacturers must ensure their products meet these specific quality benchmarks.
To confirm compliance, all Beta Picoline products must carry the Standard Mark issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). This certification guarantees that the product meets the prescribed quality requirements.
Who Will Monitor Compliance?
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will act as the certification and enforcement authority to ensure that Beta Picoline products meet the necessary standards.
Non-compliance with this order can lead to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. This ensures that quality standards are strictly followed, benefiting both consumers and industries.
Conclusion
The extension of the implementation date for the Beta Picoline (Quality Control) Order, 2020 to 13th March 2026 provides industries additional time to adjust and comply with the new regulations. The goal remains the same: ensuring high-quality Beta Picoline production and usage in India.
This update is crucial for manufacturers, suppliers, and stakeholders in the chemical industry. Staying informed and preparing for compliance in advance will help businesses avoid any legal consequences and contribute to a higher standard of chemical products in the market.
